An online curriculum designed for elementary school students based on daily-life behavior

MY ROLE

this project is a conceptual project

CHALLENGE

Do children need to study according to study topics or according to their daily schedule? This is the dilemma that accompanied me when I design the product. It all started when I noticed that all online learning apps categorize the learning system by topics.  But why? After all, children are routed according to their daily schedule. This product is an online curriculum designed for elementary school students based on real-life behavior and the way we organize our assignments according to a hierarchy of importance

SOLUTION

A new concept that gives a shell to the student according to the course of his day. The product takes the physical life of a student. All the stuf he has in his bag, his desk, his library, and his playground . This concept can be used for future construction of AI technologies and artificial intelligence.

OVERVIEW

An online curriculum designed for elementary school

about

We're a small team of curious humans who create work we’re proud of for people and brands we believe in. With collaboration at the heart of every project, we identify what skills are required and then bring the best people together to create something truly extraordinary. Combining strategy, branding, web design and development, we build digital experiences that transform the way people connect and interact with brands.

The product understands that every form of learning includes the student's coping with the study materials and the student's coping in interpersonal relationships (friends, teachers and parents).but it is important to emphasize that the core of the product in the course of the day and only according to this we addressed the construction of features for the development of interpersonal relationship

When we examined the technological capabilities of the product, we noticed the high value it produces in analyzing the student's progress in reading. The problem was that we assumed that the student's parents would see high value in analytics. We didn't imagine that parents have no real value in this data because they don't know what to do with it.

But from the teacher's point of view, the need was obvious. And through in-depth interviews with several teachers, we were able to put up a system and a dashboard for the teachers to use.
Our goal was to produce a system that would ease the existing situation of assistant teachers in several aspects.

The first thing we decided to investigate is how the teachers monitor and check the personal reading progress for each student. Another understanding we tried to understand was what the accepted method in schools in the United States is to deal with students who have difficulty reading. Do they get extra tutoring outside of their classroom? Other questions we wanted to check our how the teachers keep in touch with the student's parents.

We spoke with several elementary school principals as well as district principals. I wrote the interview questions, and the product manager conducted the interviews. The research gave some fascinating insights that guided us later in the design phase.

We clearly divided each component according to explicit heuristics in most of the firms. We did not encounter a problem except for two issues we had difficulty solving.
After we mapped the hierarchy of the categories, we started designing the user journey from the onboarding stage until reaching the main board.
Student Dashboard- The teacher can monitor the student's reading results and progress.
Users- A list that manages all the students who use the device, with the option to filter by groups or classes
Plans-Manage the devices you have and their programs
Discover- Essential learning of using the device and how to use it in your daily life.
Home screen-A general view of the devices and users' activity, plans, and updates.
Our most significant difficulty was creating a system suitable for both a physical device and a web platform. In a multi-cross device environment, we encountered issues that we had not experienced before-Our first solution was to activate the device and then force it to register itself as a user, But we understood that this could confuse him.

We used the concept exposure method, which is a type of semi-structured interview that, in the end, presents a prototype of the product to the user, and then he is asked a series of questions about what he understands from the product. The user experiences it and thinks out loud about how he would use it daily. Through this exposure, we know the user's way of thinking through the prototype we createdThe main goals of the dashboard are divided into an overview where the teacher can quickly and easily locate the student's improvements and performance. We divided the screen into three parts:

after that we made a usability testing and we got a great insights for some of our question.

After understanding where improvements need to be made, we mapped and coded the components to find repetitive behaviour. My main resrach insights

(1) The reading comprehension graph was not intuitive enough.so the solution was to turn it into two separate graphs. Do not insert another form of a chart that needs to be learned
(2) The teacher often identifies one problem and misses another-the list of problems is arranged according to the hierarchy. In the end, there will be a general tip.
(3) Need to sort groups of students according to their problems-so on the users' page, we will add an option to: "sort by..." where we will also enter sorting by specific problems.

The Philosophy behind my design process

some words about the idea of this project

Discussion about methods in education

When I examine the most current research literature in education in the digital age, I noticed some major trends that need to be addressed. In recent years, voices have been raised among education experts that the frontal teaching structure needs to be fundamentally changed. According to the new recommendations, learning based on personality and personal relationship between teacher and student should be preferred. This attitude is expressed in the personal progress of the student giving up his strengths and weaknesses. But this situation requires large resources on the part of the school. The purpose of the product is to meet the need to enable learning based on the student's personalism and personal relationship with the teacher and his friends. I conducted interviews with students to understand their learning habits and daily routine. The guiding questions were in locating their difficulties and the needs of the students. As well as trying to figure out if there are any difficulties in transitioning to digital learning

Cross-platform & dynamic features enable core values to be maintained

As paradoxical as it sounds. A system that built on the personalization of the student while constantly building itself allows for the preservation of the core values of the product. This strategy is one of the important conclusions to be adopted when we come to discuss the business design of the product. The core values of the product emerge from the conclusions of the cultural research, according to which personality, personalization of the curriculum, and joint learning while doing so are unique values for technological learning. The product addresses the characterization of students' lives personally, it is a kind of a mentor that reflexively reflects the student's personal progress. This model produces a personal user who will require personal needs to build a customized system for himself. The business strategy of personalization enables the establishment of an ever-changing set of features. This is, therefore, a user with dynamic needs who will ask for a different feature each time with constant changes. This model will be adopted in the business strategy as a central part of the product. - A comprehensive system that contains options for different needs.

A platform that enables integration with third-party apps

Because this product is based on the organization of students' daily lives, it must create cross-platform integration. The business model will be based on a hosted platform where user behavior data can actually be segmented. Generating cross-platform user behavior data is an extremely important asset. Not only in understanding user behavior but in understanding correct processes in futuristic education which is based on personal learning. The business model will be based on the output of student behavior for the purposes of educational research and the improvement of digital education services.

Imitate the physical learning tools

Organize the day-to-day according to a hierarchy of tasks In an age where most kids use apps, they lose the importance of understanding space and time concepts that are so essential to creating order and being organized. In the physical world, children divide the importance of their tasks according to the items they place in the bag, alongside the tasks they place on their desk and in their library. This product uses this user experience and transmits it digitally

I joined this project from the first moment. With the first team meeting we all realized that unconventional thinking of multi-cross device design is required here. Including conversation design, physical interface and application. The first question that came to the team was how do designers design a cross-platform product?
